Burnishing

Burnishing in metal finishing is a form of polishing, and, a small form of peening in some applications. A burnishing process is typically achieved in a vibratory finishing machine, tumbler, rotary barrel, or, a centrifugal finishing machine. Steel media is mainly used, however, porcelain is also used on some occasions. Burnishing with media is also a form of degreasing, cleaning, light deburring, and, pre-plate finishing. Surface preparation is a common term for this process.
